FRANKLIN MALL SITE IMPROVEMENTS

The Project includes exterior improvements to City owned common land located adjacent to privately owned buildings on site last redeveloped by a public / private partnership in the 1960’s. Improvements designed by Ricky G. Mason, AIA in association with Collaborative Design Architects improve visibility of storefronts and store signage and provide intimate landscaped walks and plazas to create more pedestrian friendly environment for shopping and eating. Improvements include heavy timber trellis and tenant signage to replace foreboding pre-cast concrete trellis and improve visibility of store entrances and show windows from public streets and sidewalks; monumental plaza stairs to replace Post Office stairs to public sidewalk and redirect Post Office patrons through project site and provide raised platform for use in special events; decorative colored concrete paving and landscape lawn, groundcover, shrubs and trees to replace solid mass of concrete paving between public sidewalk and buildings and to minimize heat sinks and create pedestrian friendly walk and activity spaces; public transit stop to replace existing and match other site architecture and detail; trash and recycle enclosures to improve and expand facilities and integrate appearance with other site architecture and detail; raised planters with heavy timber trellis added to screen street views of parking lots and expand streetscape architecture;
