MAIN LIBRARY RETROFIT RENOVATION EXPANSION

The Project includes renovation expansion of two-story 50,000 sf building used for library and community center. Interior renovation replaces pre electronic typewriter era infrastructure including hvac, plumbing, electrical and communication systems; adds fire sprinkler and smoke detection systems; adds voice data communication equipment rooms; replaces community theater finishes, seating and lighting controls and adds seating for disabled; remodels senior meeting facility commercial kitchen, entry lobby and restrooms and replaces audio visual system, floor and ceiling finishes; adds art gallery and adult learn to read offices. Expansion adds 25,000 sf to building floor area including 10,000 sf second story interior addition for history room, collections and reader seating; 3,000 sf one-story building addition for entry gallery, café, bookstore, book drop and restrooms; and 12,000 sf two-story building addition for virtual library computer learning center, collections, reader seating and reference library. Building parti is divided into public, semi public and private spaces organized on two levels about a central entry gallery to make security, access, time of use and staffing of public library space, semi public community center space and private staff office space independent of public café, bookstore, meeting room, restroom and adult learn to read office space. Library circulation desk extends into entry gallery to provide interface between staff and patrons for transactions wayfinding without library being open for business or fully staffed. Staff office space is placed between library and community center to minimize staffing needs and facilitate multi tasking. Library parti is planned on the existing building column grid on two levels and organized about central two-story high sky-lit reader lounge with open unobstructed views to both levels to facilitate patron self-way-finding with minimal staff assistance.
