The Project is a single family custom dwelling designed and constructed by Ricky G. Mason, AIA as a personal residence.
The site is located within walking distance of the downtown on a steep-sloping hillside lot with views of the downtown San Pablo Bay and Berkeley Hills. The site design orientates the building to maximize views and minimize solar gain.
The building design is based on the program requirements of a professional couple with in-law in house. The floor plan includes 2,700 sf of open floor area organized on three levels to provide separate primary family living and in-law living areas which can be connected or separated by means of the indoor and outdoor stair towers. Entry-level includes entrance gallery, office and garage. Living-level includes living-dining room, entertainment room, kitchen, laundry and master bedroom and bathroom. In-law level includes bedroom, bathroom and studio with kitchenette and laundry. The interior design opens the entry level to the primary family living level to create dramatic and visually interesting interiors. The exterior design uses details materials and color reminiscent of the international architectural style to create a visually interesting and contemporary building architectural appearance.
